Protein Cream Cheese Danish

Protein Cream Cheese Danish

What’s up Crush It Crew?

Who doesn’t love a flaky, buttery cheese Danish? I know I sure do, but my macros don’t. But with just a few simple ingredient swaps, we’ve got a much healthier pastry treat with a balance of protein, carbs and fat!

I’ve never cooked with puff pastry before and honestly it seemed intimidating, but it turned out to be incredibly easy. The whole recipe took less time to prepare than it did to bake.

The flavor options are endless. I added raspberries, but you could do any fruit your heart desires or even chocolate chips. Toppings aren’t necessary though- these are definitely good enough to be eaten plain!

A quick run-down of the ingredients:

PRO: Frosted Vanilla Cupcake is the perfect sweet addition to amp up the protein total without affecting the cream cheese flavor.

Puff pastry: The cheat code to this recipe is buying premade puff pastries! These can be found in the freezer section at most any grocery store. I used the Pepperidge Farms brand.

Cream cheese and Greek yogurt: I used fat free versions, as you’re getting a decent amount of fat from the puff pastry itself. Feel free to substitute with full fat versions if you prefer.

Egg substitute: You can use Egg Beaters or egg whites here.

Protein Cream Cheese Danish

Ingredients:

    • 33g (1 scoop) Frosted Vanilla Cupcake PRO
    • 1 Puff Pastry Sheet
    • 42g fat free cream cheese
    • 60g 0% Greek yogurt
    • 46g Egg Beaters or egg whites

Instructions:

      1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
      2. Add cream cheese, Greek yogurt, protein powder and egg beaters/whites to a bowl and mix well.
      3. Cut into 9 equal pieces and then roll out each piece slightly with a rolling pin.
      4. Fold in corners to create an octagon shape or leave as is.
      5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lay pastry pieces on top.
      6. Spoon equal amounts of cream cheese mixture onto the center of each piece.
      7. Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown.
      8. Optional- top with fruit and bake for additional 1-2 minutes.
      9. Best when eaten fresh but can be stored for 1-2 days in airtight container. I recommend heating up before eating after stored.
